I am a producer, piano player and songwriter. When I was sixteen, I wanted to learn how to play "I'm Easy" by Lionel Richie. No teachers were into that so I bought some pop-piano books and learned on my own. From there I went to a community college in Waco, Texas and studied audio engineering thinking this was what I wanted to do. Then it happened... I joined my first band, "Badlands". I was hooked. I loved playing in a group and I loved the traveling and good friends I made.
Next, I moved to Tennesee and got a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Belmont University. I learned about the history of music and how to conduct and most importantly, I met Lori Mechem. She was my piano teacher and is a fantastic jazz piano player. She now owns The Nashville Jazz Workshop with her husband Roger Spencer. Because of her, I was able to turn the corner and be a real pro.
From there, I went on to play piano everywhere from cruise ship dining rooms to theaters and stages all over the world. Kenny Chesney hired me to play for him and that's where I learned how to be a road musician. Over the years I've gotten to play with several national artists on stages and TV and have enjoyed it. While working for Blake Shelton I was turning my attention toward songwriting. Blake and I wrote a song together in a backstage locker room after our show. Toby Keith was doing his show while we were writing. We got most of it done that night and finished the rest on the phone about a month later. Our band did a quick demo of the song, then I got a call from Blake asking me to come down to the studio and play on the record. That's when I found out I had gotten my first cut. Two dreams came true in one day! I got play on the master session, and I got a song I wrote on the record.
Just recently I furthered my education at Nashville State Community College studying Computer Networking Technology and this has made it much easier to understand and implement the online-recording process.
Now I have come full circle and I am making recordings for songwriters using my experiences and education to guide me. I've been in Nashville for more than 25 years. I truly love making recordings and I care very much about how the music sounds. From initial consultation about your song (is this ready to be recorded?) to the final product I will be there to help you. Please contact me using the "Contact" page to get in touch with me about your recording needs or any questions you may have.
